Who Is
Responsible
Knip is run by Alireza Pazirandeh as an individual, not a company. That makes him the data
controller for the personal data described below. The way to reach him about any of it is hello@knip.app.
What We Collect
& Why

Bill details — merchant name, items, prices. Stored so everyone sharing the link sees
the same bill. Legal basis: performing the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Participant data — the names and payment links (IBAN, Revolut, Tikkie) you choose to
enter. Only what you type in. Legal basis: performing the service you asked for.

Technical data — your IP address, browser type and language settings, and the pages
you open. Used to count visitors and understand how the tool is used. Legal basis: our legitimate
interest in running and improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Receipt Images
We do NOT store receipt images.
Your photo is held in memory only for as long as it takes to read it, then discarded. It is never
written to our database or to disk.
To read it, we send the image to Google's Gemini AI service. Please don't upload a receipt containing
anything you would not want processed by Google.
No Cookies, No
Accounts
Knip sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device for tracking. There is nothing to consent to,
so we don't ask.
- Instead of a cookie, our server derives a scrambled code from your IP address and browser settings
so we can count returning visits. It is a one-way hash — we cannot read your IP back out of it, and
we don't use it to identify you personally.
- This is a form of device fingerprinting. It serves the same counting purpose a cookie would, and we
would rather tell you that plainly than hide behind "we don't use cookies".
- You can object to this at any time by emailing us.
- Receipt photos you upload are also kept in your own browser's storage on the device that uploaded
them, so you can look at them again. They never leave your device and you can clear them by
clearing your browser data.
Advertising
We advertise Knip on Instagram and Google. When you arrive from one of those ads, the link carries a
campaign tag that our server records alongside the visit, so we can tell which ad brought you here. We do
this on our own server: we run no advertising pixels, tags or trackers on this site, and neither Meta nor
Google can follow you around Knip. What happens on their own platforms before you click is governed by
their privacy policies, not this one.
Who Else
Processes Your Data
- Google Cloud — hosting, database and server logs, in Google's European data centres.
- Google Gemini API — reads your receipt image. This service may process the image
outside the European Economic Area, under the transfer safeguards in Google's terms (EU Standard
Contractual Clauses).
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.
How Long We Keep
It
- Receipt images: not kept at all.
- Bills and participant data: kept until you ask us to delete them. Bills have no
automatic expiry, so a link you shared stays readable by anyone who has it.
- Server logs: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
Your Rights &
Deletion
You have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to object to our use of it.
Since we don't have user accounts, please contact us with any information that helps us
identify your data, such as your IBAN, Revolut username, or a Bill ID if you have it. We will remove all
associated records.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the
Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
